LATE RESULTS: NASCAR Whelen All-American Series San Gabriel Valley Night at Iwindale Presented by Beacon Media
Irwindale, Calif. - - Beacon Media presented San Gabriel Valley Night at the Speedway Saturday evening and fans were treated to some especially-spirited racing on both the racetrack's inner third-mile and outer half-mile ovals. They also sat through a rare summer rainstorm that shortened the second race of the Lucas Oil Late Model twins but made for a still-sparkling 28-car strong Seidner's Collision Centers Skid Plate Cars main event in a light drizzle.

Kenny Smith, one of the "older" (we're not telling) drivers at Irwindale (he's raced here every year since the track opened in 1999), was the popular winner of the $150 (cash money) of the six-lap Super Gen Trophy Dash for the Spears S2 tour cars. And, a bit later in the evening's action, one of the younger (14) drivers, rookie Blaine Perkins from Bakersfield won the Sears S2 feature by 2.547 seconds over another Irwindale veteran, Sierra Madre's Todd Conrad. Johnny Butler from nearby Arcadia was third only 2.839 seconds back for Conrad.
In the first Lucas Oil Late Model event of the evening, Ryan Partridge (Rancho Cucamonga) edged Trevor Huddleston (Agoura Hills) by a scant three-tenths of a second in the 15-mile (30-lap) hotly-contested race. Fast-moving rookie Christian McGhee (Claremont) grabbed the third place points, finishing a click over 4 seconds behind the Partridge/Huddleston show.

It was supposed to go 30 laps, but a downpour led to the night's second chapter of the Lucas Oil Late Models to be called a race at 17 when the wet weather made the fast oval into an instant skating rink. Christian McGhee got his first win, with another youngster, Ryan Cansdale from Laguna Beach, .127 seconds behind. Toni McCray (Highland) was third half a second back. In the points pile and with five races to go on the season, first race winner Ryan Partridge still leads the standings at 666, with McCray only 18 back with 648,

followed by McGhee whose neat 94-point night vaulted him from fifth to third place in the LOLM standings with 576 markers in the chase.
Corona-based Jason Patison had it all his way in the Pick Your Part Super Late Models, streaking the 40-lap race for the big guns with a 4 second victory over the division's points leader Toni McCray. New driver Charles Price from Fontana put in a very clean drive for third place in the 12 minute, 37-second race.
Roby Hornsby (Rancho Cucamonga), Jim Mardis (Moreno Valley), and Dusty Morgan (Covina) were the top three in the Seidner's Collision Centers Mini Stocks.
And in the first-ever "Sparking in the rain" edition, the nut-ball Seidner's Collision Centers Skid Plate Cars (you had to have been there!) lucky number 13, Gary Scheuerell from Murretia recovered from a last-lap spin to win the 30-lap, 11 and a half minute fracas over a Yorba Linda's Sean Brennan by one second. Rounding out the night's final podium was Michael Digregorio from just around the corner in Temple City. The night's biggest entry (28 cars took the green with nine completing all 20 laps), this division regularly puts on a geekily light-hearted show that's always great fun to close a night's NASCAR racing with ... they'll be back next on the track's August 30 "Night of Destruction II".
