NASCAR at Irwindale Speedway: Saturday Night, August 2 San Gabriel Valley Residents: Adult Tickets 1/2 Price!
There are 48 cities and communities listed as components of the San Gabriel Valley. They range alphabetically from Altadena to Whittier with Irwindale located almost exactly in the middle of the map. No matter where fans are from, there's a terrific night of NASCAR short track racing excitement waiting for them on August 2 at Irwindale Speedway!
The thundering Pick Your Part Super Late Models will be back in force running in their fifth (of eight) track appearances in the 2014 NASCAR season here at Irwindale. Two points (2 little old points) ... that's the difference between first and second place in this one. Linny White from Fontana has 180 points to Toni McCray's 182, with the last race winner Jason Patison (Corona) only six points (174) behind White. And ... just to turn the screws a bit tighter, Dove Canyon's Jack Madrid, who won the first race of the year, is only two points back of Patison at 172. These are the true "big bore" machines, the fastest of Irwindale's own track championship divisions and (as if it wasn't already) it officially is: "get serious" time in the "Supers".
The Spears S2 Touring Series will be in town and on Irwindale's fast half-mile track with their own patented brand of "spec" racing (every S2 car, from the paint job in is technically identical in every detail) that puts the emphasis on set-up and driving. Brandon Weaver (Bakersfield) has the lead in the eleven-event series that sees the S2's racing at a number of tracks around the southwest; his 1113 points giving him a 71-point lead over fellow Bakersfield resident Chris Morrison. Natasha Dodd from Bass Lake, on the other hand, is only 17 points back of Morrison in third place, with Bill Waters (Simi Valley) a scant eight points down in fourth. Arcadia's own Johnny Butler, with 931 points has a good hold on fifth, but will be looking for more at his home track.
After a night of exciting professional short track racing there's just nothing like watching 30 (or so) Seidner's Collision Center Skid Plate Cars slipping and sliding all over some insanely diabolical variation of the Speedway's third-mile "roval", trailing sparks, and generally getting VERY crossed up. Other than the above the Skid Plates are hard to describe. These are front wheel drive compact cars and there are two flat steel plates down there where the rear wheels should be. After that, and given the circumstances (racing one of these oddly-shoed machines in front of a large crowd of exited racing fans) the competition may be described as "fast and hilarious". Seeing (usually) is believing ... but seeing Skid Plate cars compete for the first time might make you start to doubt that fact a bit.
The night's presenting sponsor, Beacon Media News is the place where well over 125,000 southern Californian readers turn first for news of their local communities and the world. Reaching out in both print and the latest digital formats, Beacon Media News serves the San Gabriel Valley and well beyond. www.beaconmedianews.com
AND: All fans are invited to come out early (gates open a 4PM) and meet and greet all of the drivers in the above races right on the race track at Irwindale's nationally-famous On-Track Autograph Session at 5:45PM. All of the drivers, their cars, and their crews will be on hand right down on the racetrack before the racing starts. It's a terrific time for fans to get up close and personal with their favorite stars of live, local Saturday night NASCAR Home Track racing ... and one more great reason to bring the kids!
